MIP Presents Communication Campaign for Crimean Tatars Genocide Victims Remembrance Day
On 15 May 2018, a press conference ‘Marking Anniversary of the 1944 Deportation, Genocide of Crimean Tatars’ was held at the press centre of the news agency Ukrinform. Within the framework of the event, the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine presented the national communication campaign on the occasion of May 18th, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Crimean Tatars Genocide.
The campaign includes three videoclips, which will be broadcast as public social adverts on national television channels, as well as boards and citylights to be placed in Kyiv and all over Ukraine.
“Marking May 18th is not merely a commemoration of the victims of the deportation, it is part of the struggle which, unfortunately, is still ongoing. Now we witness, in fact, the repetition of the 1944 events, when the indigenous people was excluded from the peninsula and Crimea was rid of Crimean Tatars,” the First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, was quoted as saying.
She added that Ukrainians whose history was also shadowed by the genocide carried out by the Soviet regime understand Crimean Tatars better than the others and sympathize with them.
The press conference was also attended by Eskender Bariev, Chief of Board of the NGO Crimean Tatar Resource Center; Alim Aliev, programming director at Crimean House; Elvira Karaieva, member of the NGO Crimean Project and Educational Platform Q-Hub. They spoke about them events on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Crimean Tatars Genocide which would be carried out by the Mejlis and Crimean Tatars public organizations.

In addition, on May 15-18, various for a, conferences, exhibitions, performances, shows, etc. will take place all over Ukraine. On May 18th at noon, victims of the deportation will be honoured with an all-Ukrainian moment of silence; drivers are urged to stop their cars and beep as a mark of solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people.
