MIP: V International Forum “Occupied Crimea: Five Years of Resistance” Opens in Kyiv
On 27 February 2019, the V International Forum “Occupied Crimea: Five Years of Resistance”, organised by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, begins at Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv.
“Russia has occupied Crimea. For five years, it has been using hybrid tools to create a parallel reality, where the crime of occupation is substituted for the 'free referendum' and 'krymnash' [Crimea is ours]. And those who oppose simulating 'happiness' and the 'friendship of the peoples' are punished by Russia by means of torture, abductions, killings, searches, and detentions. The International Forum, which is held by the Ministry of Information Policy for the fifth year in a row, is that very platform where Ukrainian society, the international community and people in Crimea 'meet' and shape the relevant discourse, seeking to return Crimea,” the First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, said in her opening speech.
In his welcome remarks, Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman of Ukraine said that Ukraine resists Russian aggression and the occupation of Ukrainian territory, drawing closer the day of the peninsula’s reunion with mainland Ukraine.
“We remember and think about how to precipitate the day when we will be able to celebrate Crimea’s liberation from Russian occupants. We will attain this. Ukrainian Crimea will be a hospitable resort and a feather in the cap of our state,” the Head of Government was quoted as saying.
Kurt Volker, U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine, also spoke to the participants of the Forum.
