MIP: International Broadcasting TV Channel Expands Its Presence Globally, in JFO Zone

On 26 April 2019, a press conference titled “Developing UA|TV International Broadcasting TV Channel” was held at the press centre of Ukrinform, a news agency.

The Director-General of UA|TV, Liudmyla Berezovska, said at the press conference, that the TV channel had received temporary permits for broadcasting in the joint forces operation zone, which allows it to distribute Russian-language content in the occupied territories as well.

“In total, the channel broadcasts in five languages, though English and Russian occupy most airtime. To take an example, Russian is well received and understood in the JFO zone. Therefore, it is easy for us to communicate information for our viewers there,” Ms Berezovska was quoted as saying.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, Artem Bidenko, noted that UA|TV is the only Ukrainian TV channel available in Russia via satellite. “For example, people in the Transurals regions can find out the truth about what is happening in Ukraine, in Russian,” Mr Bidenko said.

He underscored that the international broadcasting TV channel would further expand its presence both globally and in the JFO zone and the occupied territories.

Now, UA|TV broadcasts via four satellites in South America, Asia, Australia, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, and in cable networks of more than 20 countries.

UA|TV channel was launched on 1 October 2015. Its operation is legally sustained by the Law “On the International Broadcasting System of Ukraine,” drafted by the Ministry of Information Policy, passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on December 8th, and signed by the President on 28 December 2015.

The channel broadcasts news and own-produced programmes via satellite and cable networks in five languages—Ukrainian, English, Russian, Arabic, and Crimean Tatar.
