MIP: Documentary Film "Peacekeepers. In the Svaneti Mountains" Presented in Kherson, Mykolaiv

On the occasion of Ukraine’s Peacekeepers Day, the documentary film “Peacekeepers. In the Svaneti Mountains”, created by the MIR&CO PRODUCTION company on the order of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, was screened.

On July 15th, the film was screened in Kherson (Yuvileinyi cinema and concert hall); and on July 16th, in Mykolaiv (military unit A1688).

The screenings were attended by Myroslav Hai, the film’s producer, Valentyna Okhlopkova, the author of the idea, and Viktor Lytvinov, the Head of the Sector of Information Reintegration of Crimea and Donbas.

Since 1992, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have participated in peacekeeping missions under the banner of the UN, NATO and other international organisations. More than 44,000 Ukrainian servicemen have taken part in the military operations.

The first independent mission of Ukrainian peacekeepers—the Security Service’s special operation on evacuating Georgian refugees from the Svaneti Mountains—took place on 10-14 October 1993. Under the fire of Abkhazian and Russian forces, Ukrainian pilots on 17 helicopters pulled off 291 flights, saving 7,634 people from ethnic cleansing and delivering 487 tonnes of cargo.
