I International Applied Scientific Conference “Information Security: The Current State, Issues, and Prospects” Held in Kyiv

On 20 September 2019, an international conference on information security was held. It was organised by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine and the Department of Sociology and Law of Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute together with the Sector for Legal Support of National Security and Defence of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine and the Science and Research Institute of Informatics and Law of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.

The event was designed to merge the theoretical and practical fundamentals of state policy in the field of information security and creating a sharing-experience platform for public officials, scientists and dedicated NGOs with a view to ensuring effective cooperation.

“Today Ukraine is being faced with hybrid warfare technologies, which has transformed information environment into the key war theatre. The experience we already have shows that information is used as a means of waging war. The aggressor adopts cutting-edge technologies to manipulate public opinion on the all-Ukrainian scale,” said Oleksandr Makobrii, Head of the Sector for Implementing the Doctrine of Information Security of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.

The animated discussion raised various issues relating to the search of innovative ways of protecting Ukraine’s information space. A point was made of the need to further improve legislation pertaining to information security; create effective mechanisms of cooperation between public authorities, research communities and NGOs; continue work in the fields of media literacy and media education; ensure national cybersecurity, etc.

Attention was drawn to the need of creating a platform for sharing experience and expertise among scientists and researchers via an annual international applied scientific conference titled “Information Security: The Current State, Issues, and Prospects”.
