MCYS: Oleksandr Roitburd Fired "On Insufficient Grounds"
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Ukraine (MCYS) has analysed the circumstances surrounding the termination of the contract with Oleksandr Roitburd, director of Odesa Fine Arts Museum, by the Odesa City Council.
It seems that the decision to fire the famous artist was taken on insufficient grounds and, therefore, may be ruled unlawful in court.
Our understanding is that Mr Roitburd may successfully challenge his firing by the Odesa City Council in court.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Ukraine is closely monitoring this case.
The text of the Ministry’s legal review of Mr Roitburd’s firing can be found here (in Ukrainian).
Earlier, Volodymyr Borodianskyi, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, requested the Ministry’s legal counsellors to look into the Odesa City Council’s decision to fire Mr Roitburd and find the legal grounds for removing the famous artist from his post.
On September 4th, the Odesa City Council decided to terminate in advance the contract with Mr Roitburd, with 51 deputies voting in favour.
The artist is challenging the decision in Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa.
