The "Historic Center of the Port City of Odesa" was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage in Danger List

On January 25, at the 18th extraordinary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (WHC), the object "Historic Center of the Port City of Odesa" was inscribed on the World Heritage in Danger List in order to preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage.

"From now on, the historic center of the port city of Odesa is under the protection of UNESCO. Despite russia's efforts to remove this important issue from the agenda, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the Ukrainian pearl on the World Heritage in Danger List. It took a lot of efforts, but the results are worth. Currently, it is important to draw the attention of the whole world to the crimes committed by the russian federation," said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

Previously, Ukraine, with the support of international partners, prepared the nomination, because Odesa has been repeatedly shelled by russian troops and is under the constant threat of missile attacks.

It should be recalled that in August 2022, MCIP initiated the inscription of the historical center of Odesa on the UNESCO World Heritage List under an accelerated procedure. In October, Ukraine officially submitted the nomination file "Historic Center of the Port City of Odesa" to UNESCO for inscription on the World Heritage List, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for an extraordinary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to inscribe the historical center of Odesa on the List.
